Relaxation and Massage

with Ioannis Dovros

"Ioannis was magic. His back massage released those muscles in my back that hurt and helped me to get more out of the yoga classes. He identified the places where I had had an injury in the past and soothed away the pain. He was every bit as good as my Sports Physio back home. You are so lucky to have him come to Dolphins Leap for the guests.". LS

"The reflexology and massage treatment with a local Greek 'healer', Iannis, was the best I had had in many years." JN

Our visiting holistic therapist, Ioannis, offers a range of specialist therapies including Sound-Massage, Hippocratic Massage, Asian Massage, Reflexology and Reiki.

Included in the price of your stay at Dolphin's Leap is a group session on relaxation and self-healing techniques. In a 90-minute evening session at sunset Ioannis will guide you through some simple techniques for relaxation and breathing methods. He will teach how to release yourselves from aches and pains using acupuncture points and simple massage pressures on the face and head. Using essential oils and a brew made of local Pelion herbs this group therapy session will guarantee rest and relaxation at the end of the day.

The treatments

Sound Massage and Sound Reflexology

This technique combines reflexology with the technique of sound massage. Sound Massage is a breakthrough technique that places sound bowls on particular parts of the body in a specified procedure, working through vibrations and careful sound knocking. The sound-bowl (also called “singing bowl”) constitutes a mixture of 7 to 9 different Tibetan metals. It helps the person find harmony, through the sounds and vibrations they produce, when rhythmically or periodically knocked. The body atunes to the vibrations and immerses in a state of deep relaxation that activats the sefl-curing powers of the body. Researches have found that the sound bowls produce a measurable vibration equivalent to the alpha and theta waves generated by the human brain. These waves slow down brain activity allowing better concentration and focus. The combination of the beneficial effects of reflexology and sound bowls give the individual a unique experience of relaxation and wellness.

Hippocratic pressures massage

After a personal interview, the therapist chooses among a variety of techniques and means that are used to boost, diffuse or ease the unbalanced energy blocked in several areas of the body. Cloths, oils and powders are used for this purpose. Hippocratic pressures massage is described in detail in the works of Galinos and is considered to be vital in the prevention and treatment of many diseases.

Reflexology

Reflexology is an ancient natural holistic approach. It has been used in China, Egypt and Greece (Hippocratic meridians). It is based on the existence of reflex points on the soles, the palms and other specific spots of the body that correspond to an organ or body function. These spots are systematically stimulated though special pressures leading to the activation of the healing forces of the body and resulting in the relaxation and harmony of the mind and body. Through the activation of the body’s self-healing capability, Reflexology contributes to the relief of anxiety and other psychogenic problems, such as headaches, migraines, respiratory problems, colds, chronic fatigue, rhinitis, musculoskeletal problems, digestive disorders etc. Reflexology presents no counter-effects and is suitable for all, except pregnant women in the 1st-3rd month of pregnancy.

Asian massage

Oriental massage is a modern specialty massage and a physical therapy at the same time. It includes a variety of treatments and massage techniques from the east. Oriental massage uses a variety of stretching, mobilization and thumb-pressures on specific meridian points. The aim is to provide the greatest possible relief, relaxation and well-being affecting the physical, mental and energy level.
It ensures deep relaxation and releases tension and chronic stress, responsible for many psychosomatic malfunctions.

Head and neck massage

The specialised head and neck massage releases the accumulated tension in the head and neck and prevents headaches, migraines and the cervical syndrome. In addition, it removes the fatigue of the face, making it look fresh and youthful.

Face reflexology

Face reflexology is a modern method, which has been developed through long surveys of over 25 years. The method includes thumb-pressure techniques for
the stimulation of nerve endings, meridians, vascular system and lymphatic drainage, as well as very delicate massage of the facial muscles. It ensures deep
serenity and relief.

Reiki (Usui Reiki Ryoho)

Reiki is a method originated in Japan and has beneficial effects on the physical well-being. This method uses the touch of hands to channel energy that is free in the universe. Reiki is carried out by putting the hands on various parts of the body of the receptor. It restores energy blockages wherever they exist. Reiki complements any medical treatment, medication, psychological therapy or alternative therapy. It helps recovery, rehabilitation and improvement and is suitable for all, regardless of age.
